Five Top (Enduring) Interior Trends SS2015 #2: Elegance

Elegance is BIG in the interior world right now.  Yet it can be tricky to put together a graceful look that feels effortless and chilled out, not contrived.  Here are my tips to achieve this look:

  1. Cool coloured walls are a perfect background in a graceful room.  My favourite paint colours for this look are Cornforth White, Dimpse and Strong White, all from Farrow and Ball.
  2. Oak flooring is timeless and refined.  Herringbone parquet is my favourite choice for a period house, but if your house is modern, a pale oak floor laid throughout the ground floor will look absolutely stunning.
  3. Chandeliers add glamour and shine, and come in modern or traditional styles.  Go for the largest you can afford.  Low-ceilinged room?  Try a 1930’s-inspired chandelier like this one from johnlewis.com:
  4. Now add some fun… Glass accessories and natural linen increase the elegance factor, but it’s also important to include some casual elements like leather pouffes and quirky accessories to keep the look chilled-out and make you smile :-)  Have a look at Abigail Ahern’s shop to inject some fun.
I hope you enjoy experimenting with this look.
